Wood Basics

There are two categories of wood that you can find around the world i.e Hard wood and Soft wood.


Hard wood are typically used for making furniture. There are a vast variety fo hard woods which come in different colors, grain pattern, hardness etc. These are slow growing trees take longer time to produce yield generally around 30 years to 50 years. Hence they are expensive when compared to soft wood.

Examples include Walnut, Maple, Ash, Oak, Teak, Mahogany, Cheery etc.


As the name implies soft woods are soft, fast growing and chip easily. These type of wood are generally used for structural purposes, decking etc. Soft woods are generally pressure treated by infusing chemicals which prevents rotting due to moisture and bug infestation

Examples include Pine, Spruce, Douglas Fir etc.
